VP Eric Nelson

Rev. Dr. Eric Nelson, VP at Large

Rev. Dr. Eric D. Nelson’s journey is one marked by a steadfast dedication to social justice, community service, and transformative leadership. Born and raised in Georgia, he answered the call to serve his country by joining the U.S. Air Force, an experience that shaped his lifelong commitment to discipline, service, and leadership.

After his military service, Eric settled in Aurora, Colorado, where he immersed himself in the community for over 25 years. His passion for uplifting others led him to become a small business owner, running both an insurance company and an investment firm. With a background as a former banker, he skillfully blends business acumen with a heart for advocacy.

Driven by a quest for knowledge and spiritual growth, Eric earned his PhD from Christian Bible Institute & Seminary and a Graduate Certificate in Biblical and Theological Studies from Denver Seminary. His dedication to public service was further recognized with an honorary Doctorate in Public Service from the Denver Institute of Urban Studies and Adult College. Alongside his academic achievements, he is a Certified Addiction Counselor I, Certified Family Mediator, Unlicensed Psychotherapist, Child Family Investigator, Restorative Justice Facilitator, and Assisted Living Administrator. He also shared his expertise as an Adjunct Professor at Colorado State University in Fort Collins.

Eric’s leadership extended into community and political organizing, where he tirelessly worked to bridge gaps between local governments, religious organizations, and community groups. Serving as Vice President of the Aurora sector of the Greater Metro Denver Ministerial Alliance, he championed critical initiatives addressing education reform, mental health awareness, police accountability, homelessness, and climate change. His commitment to education was further demonstrated through his elected role on the Aurora Public Schools Board of Education.

In January 2025, Rev. Dr. Eric D. Nelson was appointed Vice President At-Large of the Greater Metro Denver Ministerial Alliance, a role that amplifies his influence and dedication to justice and equity. His multifaceted background, combining business, academia, faith, and community activism, positions him as a powerful advocate and visionary leader shaping the future of Colorado’s social justice landscape.
